Eritrean Youth Association in Stockholm, Sweden (EUF)

The third annual
“Child to child” day will this year be held on December 23, 2001,
12:00-18:00. The location is Akalla Träff in Stockholm. |
This year the program
will include Dance & Fashion - show (cultural), Singing Contest (young
stars), Poetry reading, children play garden and much more. |
The purpose of this
day is that in true holiday spirit, the children in Sweden help their sisters
and brothers in Eritrea. |
The first child-to-child project: Due to that the Ethiopian aggression in May
2000 that left over 1 million internally displaced people of which many was
stranded in refugee camps (~90% of the population in the camps are children
and women), the money that was collected in December 1999 (82.326 SEK ~ US$
8.000) was sent to the Eritrean Relief Association in Sweden (ERA-S). In
addition to transferring parts of the money directly to the victims of the
war through ERREC, parts of the funds was, with the active contribution of
EUF, used in order too ship containers containing among others computers,
school benches, chairs, scientific books, and clothes to the benefit of the
Eritrean children. |
The second child-to-child project: 45 000 SEK
(~US$ 4000) was raised in the second annual Child-Child day last winter. A
change in methodology occurred this year when EUF actively sought out a
commendable project too directly transfer the funds too. The project chosen
will build a training-centre/orphanage for disabled girls, mainly victims of
the war. |
This year: EUF aims to further develop its
methodology, a group is set up to actively find out cooperation partners for
constructing joint project proposals. This approach will increase the
understanding between the youth is Eritrea and the youth in Sweden.
Furthermore the participating youth will gain important skills in project
planning and project management. |
The initiative has
also spread to the Swedish city of Örebro and we hope to encourage other
cities in Sweden and around the world to start their own “child to child”
days. |
