Russia, Ethiopia discuss Eritrea peace process

Moscow, 30 September: Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yuriy Fedotov has discussed the Ethiopian-Eritrean peace process with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Mesfin Seyoum. The Russian Foreign Ministry's press department said that the meeting took place on 29 September in New York during the 58th session of the UN General Assembly.

The Foreign Ministry said that the current state of progress of the Ethiopian-Eritrean peace process and ways of overcoming certain difficulties that have arisen in it recently were discussed during the meeting.

The two sides confirmed the need to find effective political and diplomatic solutions to the problem of demarcating the border between the two states and noted the UN Security Council's important role in this sphere, the Foreign Ministry said.

At the meeting Fedotov stressed the need to implement satisfactorily the UN Security Council and Border Commission's relevant decisions.

Both sides expressed their willingness to further develop and deepen cooperation in the international arena, including within the UN, the Foreign Ministry said.
