Earth cracks reported in western Eritrea

Text of report by Eritrean radio on 5 July

The earth in Amalayet [phonetic], in Kerkebt subzone [western Eritrea] has cracked to a depth of 5 meters and a width of 800 meters.

According to reports from the area when the incident occurred on 28 June, a loud bang was heard followed by some fine dust which emerged from the cracks.

According to our reporter, some 100 meters from where the cracks occurred only [the existing] huge mountains with no vegetation could be seen.
