Eritrea’s last phase[phase sixth] of  endeavor for sovereignty is nearing its end.

¨       The 50’s, Political awareness. Formation and struggle through political organization and international activism.

¨       The 60’s, the armed struggle commenced

¨       The 70’s, the great leap. The transition and restructuring of  the form of struggle.

¨       The 80’s, the liberation started

¨       The90’s, independence achieved. And  Nation building commenced

¨       The late 90’s through 2000, the final work of securing sovereignty.

After five decades of tortuous trek , Eritrea is about to complete its journey to sovereignty triumphantly. At this final juncture of its struggle,  Unlike, the beginning of the chapter at phase one, the 50’s. Eritrea was able to develop its superstructure and infrastructure independently as a formidable nation, to stand its ground. Making sure that our sovereignty ones again is not  pulled from underneath  our foot.  While  keeping the world community [the U.N], involved and an distracted.

Eritrea during these various stages of its phenomenon, with impregnable method of struggle not only managed to survive the pressure of different interested groups, who were enchanted with its valuable geopolitical position in the world. But, also was able to achieve its objectives and demonstrate to these groups, including the big powers. That Eritrea’s geopolitical position can be utilized as a safe channel for positive, intellectual, economic and political development.

Denying to be the pawn of worlds politics. By not allowing to be immersed in the quagmire of its conflicts, Eritrea successfully sheltered itself from distraction: In early and late seventies survived from becoming “Lebanon of the eighties.” And, In the middle of the nineties survived from becoming “today’s Afghanistan,” [which even helped  The Sudan, by pressuring it to get rid of Bin Laden].

Now that, “Eritrea - Ethiopian border commission” in The Hague, has started its deliberation and expected to give its ruling sometimes in February, 2002. Eritrea that has emerged as  a fiercely independent littoral State, where the east and west converges. Is about to become an “idea.” By putting the big power to a test of its sanctimony for second time in a half century.
