Eritrea-Djibouti Dispute Could Escalate, Arab League

14 May 2008, Cairo, (APA )-- The Arab League has concluded that the situation at the Djibouti-Eritrea border is "extremely sensitive" with the forces of the two countries facing one another, raising fears of an outbreak of unfortunate events that could lead to more tension between them.

The Arab League reaches this conclusion in the report of a fact-finding mission set up by its Peace and Security Council to assess the situation on the borders of the two countries.

The Arab League secretary-general, Amr Moussa, received the report filed by the mission on Tuesday.

Samir Hosni, the director of African and Arab cooperation department of the Arab League, said in a press statement that the mission he headed visited the disputed area of Ras Doumera, met with the president of Djibouti and other officials, and reviewed the situation through documents, maps and the agreements signed before independence.
