Djibouti Not In A War Logic With Eritrea, Prez Guelleh

27 June 2008-Djibouti (APA) --"We will not let ourselves to be drawn into a war logic with Eritrea", the Djiboutian President, Ismail Omar Guelleh said in a speech Friday marking the 31st anniversary of his country’s independence from France.

"We have undertaken all diplomatic efforts to reach a peaceful solution to this unexpected Eritrean assault", Guelleh said in his speech during the celebration.

"We will continue this way with the assurance and with the conviction of the accuracy of the legitimacy and righteousness of our position", he said, adding that this position is comforted by messages of solidarity from the international community.

He lauded the decision of the UN Security Council during its special session on the issue and urged Eritrea last Tuesday to withdraw its forces from the front line.

Meanwhile, the United Nations has decided to send an information mission on the field.

On June 11, fighting broke out between Djiboutian and Eritrean armed forces at the border between both countries where the tension has been high since April.

Eritrea has since April 16 been occupying parts of Djibouti territory and the matter has been referred to the international community, the African Union, the Arab League, IGAD, and to the United Nations Security Council.
