Eritrea:
Festival Of Perpetrators & Perpetuators Of Tyranny
11
August 2008 Berhane
M Tekeste
As
I stated repeatedly in my earlier installments, Eritrea ruler, tyrant
Isaias Afeworki has mastered and perfected the mechanics of
perpetuating tyranny and made it to an art like no other tyrant.
In
Eritrea, tyranny is perpetuated, firstly, by employing Gestapo
tactics of intimidation and fear in order to assure full submission
to it, and, secondly, by preoccupying the public with issues and
festivities that divert attention away from tyranny. In line with the
later, Afawerki's tyrannical machinery launches a series of Festivals
laced with preoccupying diversionary issues dubbed conveniently with
different labels but choreographed essentially the same way at this
time of the year, every year.
 Eritrea
Festival attendees welcoming and cheering ambassadors of tyranny
enthusiastically in DC, this weekend? Talk about non-politicized event!
The
Festivals are advertised as a matter of fostering, cultivating, and
promoting national culture and patriotism as well as an avenue to
socialize with each other. But it is all Festival of the perpetrators
and Perpetrators of tyranny for they are celebrating the success of
their diversionary maneuvers that have deflected away attention from
what the people of Eritrea are subjected to: Sheer, barefaced,
palpable, and brutal tyranny. No one talks about tyranny, the nation
is completely preoccupied with Fetivals. They can't have any better.
The
Festivals are broadcast as non-political social event. Yet, the
Festivals are opened and blessed by ambassadors and other high-level
surrogates of Tyranny that are also engaged in conducting political
seminars. Woldai Futur, Minister of National
Development (guest of Honor), Ghirmai Ghebremariam, Eritrean
Ambassador to the United States and Araya Desta, Permanent
Representative of Eritrea to the UN opened the DC Festival
officially. And in Swedent it was Abraha Asfaha, Minister of public works
and certainly the Eritrea Ambassador in Sweden that were in charge of
blessing the Festival.
Now
what part of that is non-political affair? What was the need for the presence
of political emissaries of tyranny if it were not political? Who is
fooling whom here?
On
the flip side of the coin, there are Festival goers that swear they
are not in it for political reasons, just social thing. Yet, you see
them according enthusiastic welcome and cheering agents of tyranny
wherever they show up- see included photos. If one had to take
Festival goers by their word, then they should have at least protested the
politicization of the event as expressed by the active participation
of high-level perpetrators of tyranny. They could have staged
walk-outs in protest of politicization of the event? No, they don't
do that because they don't mean what they say. It is a lame excuse.
 Ambassadors
of tyranny officially opening Eritrea Festival in Sweden in the
presence of cheering Festival attendees? Talk about non-politicized event! Emissaries of tyranny even get a bouquet of flowers! For what? perpetuating tyranny? Talk about Festival goers being there not for political reasons?
Turn
it and roll it all you want, but what is advertised as Eritrea
Festival is beyond any doubt Festival of the perpetrators and
Perpetrators of Tyranny wrapped in 'social event'. If it were indeed a purely social/cultural affair designed to keep Eritrean diaspora in touch with the essence of their motherland, then the tyrant should stay out of it in words and deeds and make it up to diaspora communities to plan, design, and organize such Festivals on their own terms and without any involvement of agents of tyranny in whatsoever form or shape.
