Eritrea/Ethiopia: Hyping border issue diversionary tactic

05 November 2005 (ED) – In a statement issued today by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eritrea accuses UN secretary general Kofi Annan of hyping the border issue as a tactic to divert attention from the ongoing deadly political unrests throughout Ethiopia and the barbaric atrocities being committed by the ruling Woyané regime.

The UN Secretary General is undertaking the fabrication of false and baseless news regarding the issue of the border dispute with the objective of deviating the attention of the peoples from the crucial issues. He is doing this through holding meetings and releasing information statements with the help of his aides for helping the TPLF regime to come out of the extremely dangerous situation it is passing through at the moment.”(SIC) said the statement.

Indeed, Annan's hyping of the border issue that has been lingering for over 3 ½ years at the height of the ongoing violent and massive popular uprising against the Woyane regime in Ethiopia that has so far claimed at least 100 lives and at a time when the int'l community is expressing serious concerns and sadness about the cold blooded and indiscriminate murder of unarmed civilians certainly shifts focus away from the actual event and is an attempt to shield the murderous Woyane regime from international condemnation for its barbaric insanity.

Referring to the border issue, in an article they contributed to “The Times”,Richard Beeston and Jonathan Clayton wrote “Western diplomats are concerned that Meles Zenawi, the Prime Minister, may be tempted to be more bellicose to divert attention from his domestic problems.”
