Eritrea:
Tyrant Afewarki's Yet Another Temper Tantrum
Commentary
Berhane M
Tekeste 13 May 2009
 Eritrea
tyrant lashes out at African governments calling them a system
wrought with “favoritism..cronyism...
where for every government official there are probably over 300
relatives... people coming from here and there..not even
educated...trying to do the job..they are parasites in a system that
will ultimately collapse on its own”. Amen!
Eritrea tyrant, Isias
Afewarki, was once again attacked by a temper tantrum outburst that
was triggered, as
I warned a couple of days ago, by a mere mention of the issue of
governance. The incident occurred during a video-taped interview,
dated 12 May 2009 and aired on EriTV, with Business Week magazine
that specializes in Business in China.
Afewarki
lashed out at African governments as a system wrought with
“favoritism..cronyism... where for every government official
there are probably over 300 relatives... people coming from here and
there..not even educated...trying to do the job..they are parasites
in a system that will ultimately collapse on its own”. Talk about education! Afewarki never made it beyond first semester college now trying to do the job himself lecturing the world on macr/micro economics, agriculture, public health, mining, business, international law, international relations, political science, dietician, playing daily caloric intake expert, etc!
Right
at the start of the 'interview', the reporter says “it is my
understanding you have been in power since 1993”. Afewarki did
not dispute that for obvious reasons: He wants to reduce his
tyrannical time as it can only be reduced. Otherwise, who else was in
power between 1991 – 1993 if not tyrant Afewarki? Meles? lol.
Next,
the reporter commends tyrant Afewarki for having a lean and mean
government. Again, tyrant Afewarki couldn't agree more on that, for
what could be leaner and meaner than one man controlling a country
without parliament, parliamentary members, constitutional restraint,
political opposition, the nuisance free media, or elections? That all
costs money, and who needs political aggravation?
There
you have it, the new perverted understanding of tyranny: A lean and
mean one-man (the executive, judiciary and legislative,
commnder-in-chief all in one) show and rule by the barrel of the gun!
During
the interview, tyrant Afewarki submits that 'lean mean govt' is not
enough, there needs to be 'checks and balances' to control what the
government is doing. Holy smoke! I can't believe my ears! Tyrant
Afewarki, how about you starting to practice what you preach: 'checks
and balances'? It is very long past overdue, sir?Democracy is all
about 'checks and balances', sir? How about giving it a shot? Lol.
Afewarki
also submits that there needs to be 'a legal system' for a society to
function properly. That knocked me off my seat too! Again, tyrant
Afewarki, how about practicing what you preach? How about having
elected legislative body, parliament, to legislate the laws and an
independent judiciary to enforce the laws, and a national
constitution as the only source and ultimate law of the land? That
will certainly provide you with a solid 'legal system' to start with?
Now,
how does a solicited interview look like? Answer: It is all 'yes',
'exactly', again 'yes', 'excellent', 'very true', 'very true' again exclamations designed to affirm
all whatever tyrant Afewarki says. As a matter of fact, the only word
uttered by the accompanying female reporter was a loud 'yes' twice, may be she was prompted?
With regards to private sector, Mr. know-it-all tyrant Afewarki faltered badly. "people may have their own ideas about what the private sector means" he said, but he didn't say what his own idea about the private sector is. I don't blame him for that because there is no private sector in Eritrea! It is all owned by the PFDJ Estate that is controlling and ruling Eritrea by the barrel of the gun! Would some one please tell Afewarki to Google up the meaning of private sector? I don't think he has the age to go school for it now? Thanks.
Afewarki,
in line with his tyrannical thinking, also submits that absent the
infrastructures necessary for economic development, food security
etc, and absent societal stability, 'political system would be
unthinkable and unviable'. That is an unedited testimony to justify
tyranny? For, absent a political system that commands undisputed popular legitimacy, who else would be in charge of effecting and implementing the said preconditions and assuring stability if not tyrant Afewarki? And who said Afewarki is the only one for the job? Barrel of the guns!
