Eritrea: Head Of Consular Affairs Seeks Asylum In The USA

25 April 2010, Washington DC (Eritrea Daily)-- Long time head of Consular Affairs at the Embassy Of Eritrea in Washington DC, Mr. Salih Iman Mahmood has sought political asylum in the USA, reliable sources told Assenna.

Prior to his assignment in Washington DC, Mr. Mahmood held the position of head of political affairs at the Eritrean diplomatic mission in the Sudan. Further, Mr. Mahmood served as one the founders of the 'Department of protocol' at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Asmara, Eritrea.

According to Assenna sources, Mr. Mahmood decided to seek political asylum following serious fall outs with the Eritrean Ambassador and functionaries of Eritrea ruler Isias Afewari at the Embassy and general rejection of Afewarki's tyrannical grip on our country Eritrea.

Assenna sources also disclosed that Mr. Sahlih Iman Mahmood was well-liked by members of the Eritrean community in the area.
