Italy: 366-Tree Memorial Park For Lampedusa Victims Inaugurated

Lampedusa, Italy, 3 November 2013-On this Africa Continental Day of mourning of the mainly Eritrean victims of the 3 Oct 2013 shipwreck, the place where it happened, the island of Lampedusa immortalized the victims by creating '
il Giardino della Memoria' or Memorial Park by planting 366 trees one representing each victim.

On this day 40 trees were planted in the presence of the survivors and city and other dignitaries including the mayor of Lampedusa, Ms Guisi Nicolini.


Further, on this day 366 candles were lighted and a bell sounded 366 times. The next tree-planting event is scheduled to take place on 21 November. This, while in the land of the victims, Eritrea, Eritrea tyrant wouldn't allow the lighting of one single candle light or even private mourning.
