Oct 3: Lampedusa Massacre Memorial Day

In a Public Notice they issued today, a group  that calls itself
COMITATO 3OTTOBRE composed of journalists, social workers, Eritrean immigrants, and others that has formed following the 3 Oct 13 Lampedusa massacre of Eritrean refugees is now pushing for a legislation to declare 3 October as Memorial Day for Eritreans Massacred in Lampedusa.

The group is supported by UNHCR, International Organization for Migration (IOM), Italian Council for Refugees (CIR), Save the Children, Terres des Hommes Italian NGO, Legambiente, Astalli Center, Association for Legal Studies on Immigration (ASGI), Arci, UsigRai, Meltong Pot and more.

The group is certain that the draft legislation they will propose to the Italian will have the support of the majority of the Parliament. The group has launched a petition drive to this effect that have over 6000 signatories and counting. Please visit the provided

The group will hold a Flashmob demo in front of the Italian Parliament, Piazza Montecitorio, Rome, at 1800 hrs local time.

After the establishement of the Lampedusa Memorial Park that immortalizes our fellow Eritrean victims, declaring 3 October a Memorial day that will be observed every year is one more day to remember our Eritrean victims and a great service too.
