Corrupt military official sentenced

A SENIOR officer with the Slovak Armed Forces was
sentenced by the Military District Court in Bratislava to six months in prison
and a Sk20,000 (€500) fine for accepting a bribe.
The officer, 39, from the General Staff Operations
Department, admits that she demanded a $500 (€410) bribe from a soldier on a
peacekeeping mission in Eritrea who wished to prolong his stay in Africa, the
TASR news wire wrote.
The witness in the case is currently engaged in
the peacekeeping mission. It was based on his information that the police
caught the officer red-handed in January.
She was also found to have meddled in the
selection of soldiers for peacekeeping missions and in the prolongation of
their stay in such missions. The arrest was carried out by the Interior
Ministry's Department for the Fight against Corruption, in cooperation with
