Eritrea: OEA Hails Sudanese Peace Agreement
January 10, 2005
The
Organization of Eritrean Americans (OEA), an association of American citizens
from Eritrea, is very pleased to extend its warm congratulations to the
government and people of Sudan on the occasion of signing the Sudanese Peace
Agreement.
The
signing of the Comprehensive
Peace Treaty is not only fulfilling the expectations of the peoples of Sudan, but
also the expectations and hopes of the peace loving brotherly peoples of the
Horn of Africa in particular, as well as the entire continent of Africa.
OEA
sincerely hopes that the Sudanese Peace Agreements will afford the people of
Sudan greater security and stability without which no development could be
achieved.
OEA
would like to take this opportunity to call on all the witnesses and guarantors
of the Sudanese Peace Agreements to exert maximum efforts to help the Sudanese
parties in the implementation of the signed Agreements.
OEA
takes this opportunity to congratulate the efforts exerted by the members of
the Inter Government Authority for Development (IGAD) for sponsoring the
negotiations and calls on the international community to support the parties to
consolidate peace and rehabilitate the damages of the three decade long civil
war.
OEA
also reminds those who attended the signing ceremony to push for the full and
unconditional implementation of other peace treaties signed by other nations in
the Horn of Africa. An example would be the Algiers Peace Agreement, which is
in jeopardy because of Ethiopia's continued refusal to implement the final and
binding DECISION of the Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission.
OEA again congratulates the people of Sudan
and urge the peoples and governments of the IGAD region to avail their
continuing support for the Agreements so that the aspirations of the Sudanese
people will be achieved.
