Eritrean
president in Kuwait for four-day visit
ASMARA, 02 Oct 2004
(AFP) - Eritrean president Isaias Afwerki is currently in Kuwait on a four-day
working visit, an official Eritrean statement said.
President Isaias will hold talks with Prince Sheik Jabir
Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah and Prime Minister Sheik Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, according
to the statement, posted on the Eritrean Information Ministry website.
"A protocol agreement on bilateral cooperation in the
fields of culture, mass media, and education, sports and youth affairs is
expected to be signed between the foreign ministries of the two
countries," the text adds.
The Eritrean head of State rarely leaves his country.
Eritrea's relationship with its two big neighbours, Ethiopia and Sudan, is
strained.
A border dispute with Ethiopia has still not been solved.
Last year Addis Ababa rejected the demarcation imposed by an independent
commission after a border war between the two countries, from 1998 to 2000.
Khartoum accuses Eritrea of training and giving military
supplies to Sudanese opposition groups, a claim that Asmara denies.
