Sudan: Ties with Eritrea at "zero
level"; UN body to arrive
Khartoum,
Oct
22, 2004: Foreign Minister Dr Mustafa Uthman Isma'il said that the
international committee for investigation in Darfur is due to arrive in Sudan
shortly
In a press
statement Thursday, Dr Isma'il said that the secretary-general of the United
Nations has sent a message to Sudan government on formation of the committee,
its tasks and names of its members.
On the funding
for the African monitoring forces in Darfur, Dr Ismail said that the
international community has provided up to now 58 per cent of the funds which
it has pledged to extend. He said that Sudan calls on the international
community and donors to meet their commitments so that the African Union and
the humanitarian aid organizations can carry out their tasks in Darfur.
The foreign
minister said that the Council of Ministers Thursday [21 October] heard a
report of the minister of humanitarian affairs and directed the concerned
authorities to give priority to implementation of the ministry's programmes.
Dr Isma'il also
described the Eritrean allegations against Sudan as sheer fabrications, which
were intended to justify the heinous acts and crimes of the Eritrean regime. He
said that the Sudanese-Eritrean relations are now at zero level.
