Eritrea/Ethiopia: The lies and distortions of UN’s Lloyd Axworthy
By Team EritreaDaily

In an
interview with AP, AP Worldstream, Nov 29, 2004, UN Special Envoy to Eritrea and Ethiopia,
Llyod Axworthy said "All along the Eritrean President
has said there is no point getting involved until Ethiopia has agreed to work
with the decision of the boundary commission and that has now taken place. So
the ball is in their court."
That is a blatant lie. Eritrea’s policy is and has always been not to get
involved until
1. Ethiopia agrees to accept unequivocally, Not ‘to work
with’, the decision of the Boundary Commission. Who is kidding whom, here?!
2.
The border demarcation has been executed and implemented
fully on the ground as determined by the Boundary Commission’s decision.
3.
Ethiopia
withdraws its troops from sovereign Eritrean territories, which it continues to
occupy.
Mr. Axworthy,
the ball has no business in Eritrea’s court because Eritrea is neither
contesting nor debating any thing. Eritrea has long been in full compliance with
the decision of the Boundary Commission, paid its dues, appointed field liaison
officers, declared its unequivocal acceptance of the decision of the Boundary
Commission and otherwise agreed to cooperate fully and expeditiously with
Boundary Commission as called for by UNSC resolution 1531 (2004) of March 2004.
Mr. Axworthy, the ball is and will remains in Ethiopia’s court until Ethiopia
does the same.
