US Official: Border
ruling final & binding, no precondition

Asmara, Eritrea, Dec 07, 2004 -President
Isayas Afewerki today met and held talks with a US delegation led by Mr Donald
Yamamoto, deputy assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs.
During the meeting, Mr Yamamoto said that the US government
remains firm on its last January statement on the Eritrea-Ethiopia border
dispute, which stated the boundary commission's ruling as final and binding and
that it should be implemented without any preconditions.
Mr Yamamoto told President Isayas the US government's desire and
readiness to further strengthen the existing relations with Eritrea.
President Isayas on his part said that the international community
as the guarantors of the Algiers peace agreement and has a legal obligation in
overseeing the implementation of the agreements, and urged the US government to
give a clear message to the weyane [Ethiopian] government to honour and
implement the agreement and the boundary commission's ruling immediately.
