Eritrea, Ethiopia: Border incident leaves three Eritreans dead

Friday, 30 July 2004 - The UN mission in Eritrea and Ethiopia reported yesterday that there was a shooting incident On 22nd July at the Grat Mariam village near Shilalo in Sector West of the Eritrea/Ethiopia border in which three Eritrean Militiamen were killed.

�The deceased have since been buried�, added the report.

UNMEE stated,� �During preliminary investigations into the incident by UNMEE, the Eritrean authorities alleged that Ethiopians were involved in the shooting, however the Ethiopian authorities have denied any involvement�.

�UNMEE has been unable to substantiate any of claims made by either side�, said the report further.
