Eritrea arming Darfur, other eastern militias- Sudanese army
Omdurman, Aug 12, 2004 - The official spokesman of the armed forces, Staff Lt-Gen Muhammad Bashir Sulayman, has said that as they celebrates their golden jubilee, the armed forces will continue to perform their duty with confidence, assurance and faith to defend the homeland and honour. He said the army would counter, with uttermost determination and force, conspiracies which are being woven against the country. He said the armed forces were carrying out their duty in Darfur nationally, and that they were committed to the cease-fire agreement.
In an interview with [Omdurman] Radio, the spokesman said accusations being repeated by some inimical quarters that the armed forces had bombed some areas of Darfur from the air were false, and were in the framework of the campaign targeting the country.
He further said that the Eritrean regime continued to support the Darfur rebels, the Beja Congress and Free Lions in eastern Sudan. He said the armed forces were prepared to repulse any aggression against the eastern part of the country.
